2001 NPCW card back -- The caption reads: “In the mid-1960s, seemingly from out of nowhere, the Mamas & Papas burst onto the musical scene with a sound that blended folk and rock and became a large part of the soundtrack of the flower power era. Led by Papa John Phillips, the Mamas & Papas were the first American band to stem the tide of the British invasion. John wrote, co-wrote and/or arranged all of the group’s music, and it was his musical genius that propelled them to the top of the charts over and over. John Phillips died from a heart attack on March 18, 2001.”
